Employment Experience:
I am a registered clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience in the field of child and adolescent psychology. Additionally, I am a registered marriage and family therapist, a certified /licensed school psychologist, and a certified /licensed teacher of special education.
As a behavior consultant with RelatedMinds Educational Consultants, my responsibilities include providing diagnostic assessments, psycho-educational assessments, family therapy, parent education, and school- and home- based consultation.
I have also worked with the Provincial Outreach Program for Autism and Related Disorders (POPARD), providing consultation, training, and support services throughout the province. I also provide behavior-related services to several lower mainland school districts.
My previous experience includes serving as department chair for the New York State's Office of Children and Family Services, and providing behavior management training to professionals in a number of cities in California. For example, for 3 years I provided training and consultation in the Bay Area of California as a trainer of trainers through the PENT (Positive Environment Network of Trainers). This work involved teaching school psychologists and teachers about behavior plans, functional behavior analysis, and intervention techniques. Throughout this time I conducted the school districts’ functional behavior analysis program and trained and supervised all of the districts’ 20-plus school psychologists in completing FBA and writing positive behavior support plans.

Snapshot of Your Philosophy and Approach to Working with Individuals and Families with Autism
| Besides my work as a diagnostician, I have worked extensively with the language-based approach of Michelle Winner; most of this work is based on pragmatic language development, teaching perspective-taking, and supporting social thinking processes. My major focus is on behavior issues and Asperger's disorder within the contexts of school placement for academic success. Additionally, I work closely with families, both in my office and in their homes, to set up programs (e.g., Picture Exchange Communication Symbols) to increase social reciprocity and social communication skills. I also provide educational support to parents. I believe that it is very important to work closely with and support family members because they are the people who interact with the child the most. Please visit my website for more information on my philosophy and approach. |

Professional Development Activities:
Recent professional development activities have included the following:
- 2004/2005, Fremont Unified School District, California: Participation in school-based training programs on (a) the development of social thinking programs for students with Aspergers and related disorders; and (b) language-based training with a focus on applied behavior analysis, by Michelle Winner and James Partington, respectively.
- 2002, University of North Carolina: Attendance at a 3-week training session (plus follow-up) by Dr. Mel Levine, on the use of neuro-developmental assessment tools and their use in developing appropriate school-based interventions.
- 2009, Home-based continuing education through Psych Corp.: Two 18-hour training programs in the ADOS and ADI-R, two diagnostic tools used in the diagnostic process for ASD.
In addition to the above, I have completed ABA and Autism workshops available through POPARD.
Publications and Conference Presentations:
As a consultant and psychologist who works regularly with School District 42 (Maple Ridge) and POPARD, I have provided numerous training sessions and workshops (e.g., on completing functional behavior assessments) for teachers and support staff.
Recent work in this area has included the development (in 2007) of three video-conference training sessions that were commissioned by POPARD and used for training purposes by SD 42 in 2008 and 2009. The videos were on writing positive behavior support plans, the basics of classroom management, and working with explosive and aggressive children. |

Description of fee schedule
I follow the BCPA suggested fee schedule for psychologists, which is $160.00 per hour for office visits. Home visits are the same plus travel expenses/time; the fee is the same when I am working as a supervisor to direct caregivers. Often, further behavioral consultation is provided by one of my associates in the home, and this is usually billed at $80.00 per hour, plus travel. Full diagnostic assessments (including ADI-R and ADOS) range from $1,800 - $2,000, depending on the complexity of the assessment, and frequently include cognitive and psycho-educational assessments. Our team includes registered clinical counselors, who also provide in-home training and consultation at a lower fee. In addition, I often provide supervision for student trainees at a lower cost.
