Planning to Learn:
Creating and Using a Personal Planner with Young People on the Autism Spectrum

This illustrated workbook is packed with guidance and support for those new to, or experienced, in working with children and young people on the autism spectrum. It can be used within educational and community settings or at home.

The authors introduce the idea of the planner with instructions for the supporting adult who will become 'the shaper' in the process. The main part of the book leads the child and shaper through a series of five topics, starting with making the planner, then making specific plans to calm, be organized, to be with people and to think. These topics are broken down into individual sessions, each of which should take between half and hour and an hour to complete.

Each session includes instructions for the adult on preparations and key points to emphasize. The book contains a selection of photocopiable resources which are designed to be incorporated into the planner.
