Employment Experience:

  • June 10 – present: Behavior Consultant, ABLE Developmental Clinic, West Vancouver, BC. I currently work as an associate of ABLE Clinic, a private practice that provides assessment, treatment and consultation for children and youth experiencing difficulties with attention, behaviour, learning, and emotion. I currently maintain a caseload of approximately 15 children, aged 3-16, with a focus on assessment and treatment of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders; and consultation to families, schools, and community programs.
  •  February, 2007 – February, 2008: Intern Psychologist, BCBA Practicum, Glenbrae School, Auckland, New Zealand. During this practicum I conducted individual and group interventions for children (aged 5-10) with learning disabilities and/or behavioural difficulties, including children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Interventions included Direct Instruction to teach phonological awareness, Precision Teaching, Discrete Trial Teaching, and Self Management. I also conducted effective interventions to improve positive social behaviours.
  •  May 05 to Feb 06: Self-employed behavior interventionist, New Zealand. I conducted behavior analyst-designed ABA therapy programs for children aged 4 – 6 with autism spectrum disorders in their homes. I supported improvements in learning and behavior using discrete trial or incidental teaching, by managing problem behavior, and parent behavior.

Snapshot of Your Philosophy and Approach to Working with Individuals and Families with Autism

I take a family-centered approach to my work as I develop and prioritize goals that are based on a family’s culture, values, and beliefs. I believe that programs should be individually tailored to the child and based on best practices of Applied Behaviour Analysis. I welcome participation from the family in their child’s ABA program, as well as collaboration with all other professionals.

Professional Development Activities:

Every year I take courses or workshops related to Applied Behaviour Analysis, and attend at least one professional conference. I also participate in a monthly consultant’s meeting. I would be pleased to discuss my professional development activities in more detail with interested families.

Publications and Conference Presentations:

June, 2010, Vancouver, BC: Presentation entitled,"Adolescents with conduct problems: What the “beep” does ABA know?," at the BC Association for Applied Behavior Analysis June conference
