Professional Experience: |
|
I have 20 years experience supporting people with a range of disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, and from various communities, including First Nations and other minority groups. |
Snapshot of Your Philosophy and Approach to Working with Individuals and Families with Autism |
|
I believe that the family provides the most effective support to a child. Parents and extended family can learn to support children’s learning needs and help them to have happy and successful lives. |
Professional Development Activities: |
|
Over the years, I have attended hundreds of hours of workshops, conferences, and courses. Some of the most recent and relevant include the following:
- January, 2007, Vancouver, BC. Attendance at a seminar entitled, “Encouraging Parent-child Interaction,” by Gerard Kysela. Sponsored by ACT: Autism Community Training.
- November, 2007. Online certificate course entitled, “Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy,” offered by the University of Southern Carolina Medical School.
- 2003 – Present: Graduate student in Master of Counselling Psychology program through the University of Lethbridge (anticipated graduation December 2008).
- 2000, Vancouver, BC: Attendance at a seminar by Linda Hodgson entitled, “Improving Communication with Visual Strategies.” Sponsored by the Autism Society of BC.
I am also a member of the following professional associations related to my field: Association for Advancement of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, Canadian Counselling Association, and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. |
