Are BC Autism Treatment Funds Taxable Income? - A Ruling from Canada
Revenue Agency

ACT was recently provided with a copy of a letter from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regarding an inquiry as to whether Autism Invention Funding provided by the government of BC to families who have children with Autism Spectrum Disorder is taxable. This letter was submitted to the person who inquired in February of 2004. To briefly summarize the decision from the letter:

PRINCIPAL ISSUES:
Is funding received under two British Columbia programs for children with autism taxable?

POSITION:
No.

REASONS:
Although the amounts are social assistance, the payments are not made on the basis of a means, needs or income test."

Please refer to the attached document for more details.
