Kiwanis International has requested that Access Resources host a brand new Aktion Club which will be chartered during the months of September and October 2007.This Aktion Club will be sponsored by the Kiwanis High Noon, Kiwanis Summit and Kiwanis Business Clubs of Kelowna. The first meeting of Aktion Club was held on Tuesday September 11th, 2007 with much enthusiasm and interest generated amongst all who attended. Richard Crone from Community Living British Columbia was in attendance to provide his knowledge and describe the success of the Aktion Club located in Oliver/Osoyoos BC. Gilly Alook represented the Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance also showing support to local club participants and future members.

What is an Aktion Club?
An Aktion Club is a community service group composed of adults with disabilities. These individuals believe (as their motto states) that development has no disability. Aktion Club projects are unique to the individuals of the Club, but might include a wide range of activities such as painting park benches, landscaping community grounds, adopting a nursing home, distributing food baskets during the holidays to families in need of support, etc. An Aktion Club is exactly what the members decide it to be and the opportunities can be endless. The Kelowna Aktion Club has the support of a very diverse group of local leaders and business professionals. This new Aktion Club will build and enhance community partnerships, leadership as well as innovation and creativity within our community.

Why join an Aktion Club?
The Aktion Club provides members with opportunities to participate actively in, and contribute to the life of the community. Activities enable members to interact socially, demonstrate leadership and integrate into the community as well as achieve personal and community service goals. Aktion Club Advisors and Kiwanis Leaders will ensure Aktion Club success by facilitating and supporting the goals, wishes and projects of the local Aktion Club Board and members. Membership to this club is only $5.00.

What we'll do:
The meeting agendas for September 2007 will be to establish the local membership and charter of the new club. As the Aktion Club will be governed by the participants, October's agenda will include full nomination of the board members and end the month with a celebration of the new charter! Individuals interested in a position on the board may show up at the following dates and times listed below. Kiwanis International and Access Resources are encouraging all individuals, agencies, professionals and business community members to participate in the Kiwanis Aktion Club in order to make this a sustainable and valued community service group in our local community. The Aktion Club will be driven and directed by the Aktion Club members and participants.
