Important Information for Parents Using Out-of-Province Providers
Dear Parents of Children under Six,
ACT is continuing to work with service providers both within BC and in the US to finish the long process of updating the files of all the professionals on the Qualified Service Providers List. It is particularly important that everyone on the QSP List have a Criminal Record Check, otherwise they cannot remain on the QSP List. This means parents cannot use their autism funding to pay them.
As we explained in our November 2005 update, (page links to webpage: news_qspl_update_outprovince) some agencies based outside of British Columbia have been particularly difficult to contact. In some cases we have made contact but the information from them has not been forthcoming.
In addition to the agencies who have not sent us information on their individual consultants, we also had no reply from several individual consultants based in the US. We wrote each of them again in November 2005, once more, requesting Criminal Record Checks (CRC’s) and in some cases supporting information on their qualifications as a behaviour consultants. Their names are:
We informed these service providers that without this information we must remove them from the QSP List. We still have not received their CRC’s. They will be removed from the QSP List as of Feb. 1, 2006 if we do not receive this information by then.
The following agencies have been removed from the QSP List as of the beginning of January because they did not respond to our repeated requests that each of their consultants send us applications, resumes, criminal record checks and copies of their degrees.
*Shelley Davis has provided information and been re-instated.
*Lovaas Institute for Early Intervention has provided information and been
re-instated.
Autism Partnership and Behaviour, all three sites, did respond pro-actively and are still on the QSP List pending completion of their applications.
Early Educational Centre for Autism has responded and we are awaiting their information. They have until February 1 st to submit their information.
If you are receiving services from any of these individual consultants or agencies, please make them aware that their attention to this matter is important. Unless a behaviour consultant is on the QSP List, families cannot be reimbursed by MCFD’s Autism Funding Program for children under six.
Thank you for your help in this matter. If you have any questions about the status of any of these individuals or consultants, please contact me at the email address below or you may call me at 604-205-5467 or toll free at 1-866-939-5188.
Sincerely,
Deborah Pugh
