About the Presenter
Dr. Peter Gerhardt is internationally recognized for his research and practice in providing supports for teenagers and adults with ASD. An inspiring presenter, he combines years of experience in providing direct service to older learners with ASD with a commitment to researching innovative solutions to the challenges that they face as they mature. He is the author or co-author of a number of articles and book chapters on the needs of adults with ASD, the school-to- work-transition process and analysis and intervention of problematic behavior. He has presented nationally and internationally on these topics. Currently Dr. Gerhardt is the President of the Organization for Autism Research. He co-founded the Douglass Group, a social skills and support service for adults with High Functioning Autism.

About the Workshop
Preparing children with autism to lead rich adult lives can be very challenging and requires schools and families to collaborate in finding effective interventions. This presentation will provide practical suggestions for transition planning at any age, targeting employment, community based instruction, social competency, sexuality, and other quality of life concerns. In addition, this presentation is highly recommended for parents and professionals working with younger children who are searching for a perspective on what they need to teach today in preparation for adulthood. Dr. Gerhardt will draw on his extensive experience of working with older, high functioning individuals using ABA-based interventions, and demonstrate that ABA strategies can provide effective strategies to help teenagers and adults with ASD develop skills to allow them to engage actively in community life. BC-ABA will be providing Continuing Education Units for this presentation. See www.bc-aba.org
