About the Presenter
Lauren Binnendyk, Ph.D. has worked with families and individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and related challenges for over ten years. Her research and clinical work has focused on supporting families of young children with severe food refusal with the purpose to improve problematic home and community routines. Lauren has further used her findings to design empirically supported feeding interventions both for parent-child interactions and elements of the natural meal routine.
About the Workshop
This presentation is designed to help parents and community professionals gain a better understanding of the latest research and what it is telling us about identifying and treating eating problems in children with ASD and other developmental disabilities. The difference between a fussy eater and a child with a feeding disorder is the impact the eating behaviour has on a child’s physical and social development, and on the family’s well being. This workshop will provide research tested strategies for turning mealtime nightmares into a time to enjoy.
This workshop is the first of a three-day event, ACT’s 6th Annual Focus on B.C. Research Event.
