Employment Experience: |
|
I began working in the field of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) in 2001, while pursuing an undergraduate degree at California State University, Sacramento. During this time I worked for two non-profit organizations in Northern California that were dedicated to serving children with autism spectrum disorders. I provided families and children with individualized and community-based early intervention strategies that focused on improving communication, language, cognition, sensory motor, and daily living/developmental skills.
I also was employed by Teaching Autistic Children, Inc., located in Sacramento, as a one-on-one behavioural tutor. My responsibilities included peer bonding, discrete trial instruction, behaviour modification, and classroom support. After 3 years and additional training, I was promoted to the position of behavioural consultant, and began to develop behaviour intervention plans while continuing to work one-on-one with the students and collaborating with other professionals in the field.
In July 2005, after earning my BA in Psychology, I moved to San Francisco for the opportunity to work with the Behavioral Intervention Association (BIA), where I was a program assistant and program manager. The focus at BIA was on enhancing each child’s ability to reach his or her maximum potential, through teaching approaches based on ABA principles. I was also responsible for the training and assessment of program implementers.
In February of 2008, I ended my employment with BIA to pursue, on a full-time basis, a master’s degree in special education. I am completing my degree long distance, via the University of Phoenix. As part of the degree process, I spent 100 volunteer hours participating and observing at Marvin Picollo Middle School, a special education facility in Reno, Nevada.
In July of 2008, I relocated to Vancouver and began working as a Behavioural Consultant with Pivot Point Family Growth Center, Inc. in Surrey. |
