Autism Information | Manual for Parents & Community Professionals

Living & Working with Children with
Autism Spectrum Disorder in British Columbia
A Manual for Parents & Community Professionals

The ACT Parent’s Manual is a work in progress as we gather and continually update information on a wide-range of autism specific materials. Several of our chapters are relevant to families and professionals across disabilities and we are hopeful they will be shared widely.

We publish this information in PDF format so people can print only what is relevant. This not only saves paper, it also helps to keep our information current. It is envisioned that community organizations and parents will print the relevant sections of the manual for easy reference. For parents without the resources to print chapters, ACT will mail them out to you.

It is our hope that in the future we will have the resources to be able to make printed versions of the manual available to institutions across British Columbia and to have it translated into the major languages spoken by B.C.'s immigrant communities.

We encourage those who are reading printed sections of the manual to check our website for more recent updates. If you wish to receive an email when a new chapter is available or has been updated, contact us at: manual@actcommunity.net. This is also the place to send your ideas, corrections, new information and photos!

If you have any questions about information in the manual, remember that ACT has a team of  Information Officers available to take your call from across BC. Our toll-free number is 1-866-939-5188. In Metro Vancouver call 604-205-5467. We can be reached by email at info@actcommunity.net.

NOTE: This Manual is NOT the BC Ministry of Children & Family Development's A Parent's Handbook: Your Guide to Autism Programs. If you're looking for the MCFD book, it is available here.
